The Fletcher M. Green and Charles W. Ramsdell Award

The Fletcher M. Green and Charles W. Ramsdell Award is awarded in even-numbered years for the best article published in the Journal of Southern History during the two-preceding years. It will be awarded at the 2008 annual meeting scheduled to be held in New Orleans, La. for an article published during 2006 and 2007.

The recipient of the 2006 Green-Ramsdell Award was Claudio Saunt, University of Georgia, for "'The Paradox of Freedom': Tribal Sovereignty and Emancipation during the Reconstruction of Indian Territory" published in February 2004.
