The Sunflower Concert series returns with three great lineups for outdoor concerts in the State Botanical Garden. This annual concert series, which benefits the Plant Conservation Program, is a great way to experience the Garden while enjoying live music on a warm Tuesday summer evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets include the price of admission, beverages and light snacks, and can be purchased at the Garden’s Gift Shop, Schoolkids Records and AthensMusic.net, or by calling (706) 542-1244. In the event of inclement weather or saturated ground conditions, the concerts will take place inside the Garden’s Visitor Center and Conservatory.

The Athens Land Trust and Oconee River Land Trust are parternering up to host the fourth annual Spirit of the Land fundraiser. The event, designed to increase awareness about the community's shrinking green spaces, consists of a curated art exhibition and sale by local artists, and a closing benefit featuring live music, wine tasting and an auction. Spirit of the Land will open with a reception on June 8th. The art exhibition and sale will remain open to the public for the following two weeks, concluding with a gala on June 21st. Nationally reowned nature artist, W. Carl Early returns to in late June with "Frogs: Artistry in the Garden," a collection of original nature art featuring several works inspired by the State Botanical Garden. In addition, the month long show will feature Early's beloved frogs, dragonflies and butterflies. Join us for the opening reception on June 29 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm and meet the artist in person.

Winners of the 2008 Student Art Competition are on display in the Garden Visitor Center and Conservatory. The
winners were: Jessica Bolfik 1st Place, Sutawee N. Thitaram 2nd Place, Amy Michel 3rd Place. Come out an view these wonderfull works while on display. Winning artwork will also be used to create signature items for the Gift Shop

Certificate in Native Plants. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia in cooperation with
the Georgia Plant Conservation Alliance will begin offering a certificate program in native plants beginning in the Fall of 2007. This program will offer a comprehensive
series of short couses in identification, cultivation, propagation, ecology and conservation of native Georgia plants. This program is appropriate for home gardeners and
enthusiasts, as well as green industry professionals, conservationists, and professionals in land, resource, and park management fields.
