Admission Requirements

  • Completion of General Core prior to beginning Birth through 5 sequence.
  • Completion of any any CHFD or Education courses with a grade of "B-"or higher.
  • Passing score or exemption on GACE Basic Skills.
  • Overall and cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher .
  • A one-page summary of the student's experience working with children birth-5, including the total number of hours worked.

 

Because of limited availability of community practicum placement sites, no more than a total of 30 students from the Department of Child and Family Development and the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education combined will be accepted per year for this emphasis. Acceptance decisions will be weighted using a formula of 75% for GPA in selected courses* and 25% for the one-page summary.

 

*courses used in this criterion are ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102/1102M, MATH 1101 or higher, and CHFD 2950-2950L, and SPED 2000.
