UGA president competes in For the Love of Reading – CEO Battle
Michael F. Adams, president of the University of Georgia, is doing battle this month with the CEOs and presidents of Georgia’s top universities and corporations to benefit a program that brings joy as well as literacy skills to young children across the state. The presidents and CEOs were recently videotaped reading a favorite children’s book to a group of youngsters. Adams read Boom Chicka Rock by John Archambault to a group of four-year-olds at UGA’s McPhaul Child Development Lab. Click here to watch the videos and vote.

University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams provided an update on the university’s budget on Friday, Jan. 29. Budget update slides and talking points are available online.

Amazing Student: Alyssa Larsen
When Alyssa Larsen received her bachelor's degree, she realized the quality of a University of Georgia education was top-rate. Like many students, she graduated and got a job. She got married and moved to suburban Atlanta. When it was time for graduate school, she wanted to go to UGA, and the part-time master of social work degree program at UGA's Gwinnett campus fit her needs perfectly. She is completing her degree while she works full-time. Meanwhile, Larsen and her husband just adopted a son from Georgia's foster care program. She has also been able to take advantage of many of the opportunities available to more traditional students, including a chance to volunteer at a camp for children who have been burned, which is a service-learning initiative in UGA's School of Social Work. After graduation, Larsen plans to continue working and eventually get her doctorate and clinical licensure.
