Getting started
Although the University of Georgia strongly recommends that
students have access to a computer, to the Internet, and to
appropriate software, ownership of a computer is not a requirement
for enrollment at the University of Georgia. Given that computing
demands can vary widely from discipline to discipline, students
are also strongly encouraged to ask whether their school or
department has made any specific recommendations. For students
who are undecided on their major, we have provided information
as a general guideline
for purchasing a computer.

Computing
services and internet access
Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) is the campus
service unit responsible for operation and support of UGA's
major shared institutional computing and data communications
facilities including the campus network that provide access
to campus, University-system, national, and international
computer networks.
The EITS computer services sites
The EITS Computer Services Sites are computer labs located
across the University of Georgia campus. The computer sites
are equipped with Windows microcomputers. Memorial Hall, in
addtion to the Windows computers, is equipped with Macintosh
G3 microcomputers. In addition to a variety of software packages
and printing services, these sites provide access to the central
computing resources, the campus network, and the Internet.
Most sites also provide consulting services.
LISTSERV
LISTSERV is an electronic mail facility which allows you to
participate in electronic discussion groups on thousands of
topics. The University of Georgia hosts over 2000 lists for
faculty, administrators, and student organizations, in support
of the University of Georgia System mission.
Computer policies and security
Computer Usage Policy
This is an official policy statement of The University of
Georgia and as such it is binding on all faculty, staff and
students at the University.
In addition to UGA's Computer Usage Policy, it is important
to become familiar with the policies and rules that pertain
to the individual computer labs on campus.
