UGA Day Of Silence

How to ParticipateDay of Silence Schedule

What is Day of Silence?

364 days out of the year we scream and shout to get people to notice that gay rights is an issue that needs to be talked about and fought for, no matter what our sexual orientation is. On April 10th, we try something different and not say a word.

By being silence for 9 hours, we show the impact of what it would be like to not have our Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered friends and those that fight for gay rights as well.

How do you participate?

On the Day of Silence from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m., all you have to do is not speak. It's so simple, but it's a very difficult task.

Of course, if a teacher asks you a question directly, you should answer. But by not speaking all day, you can get people thinking about the importance of gay rights. You give people a chance on the Day of Silence to learn more about issues that they may not be aware of.
