African Studies
Certificate Requirements
The Certificate in African Studies provides
students with valuable knowledge about Africa and various aspects
of life on the continent. The Certificate is recommended to
students wishing to gain international perspectives before entering
the global marketplace. The courses offered through the program
cover a variety of disciplines to ensure that the Certificate
lends itself to any major area of study.
It is not necessary to study abroad to earn
the Certificate, but credit towards the Certificate can be earned
by studying in Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya, or Morocco. Limited scholarship
funds are available to cover the cost of traveling.
In order to earn the Certificate in African
Studies, students must complete 18 credit hours from this list
of courses endorsed by the African Studies Institute. These
hours must be completed as 3 hours of credit for the compulsory
course and 15 hours of elective courses with African content.
The Certificate is awarded every spring during the Darl Snyder
African Studies Lecture.
Application for the award of the certificate
and the review of course work is due on the last day of classes
every FALL semester. Students with late applications will be
reviewed and considered for the award in the following school
year.
