2002 Awards of Excellence
Hsi-huang
Chen, our first Ph.D. graduate, received the 2002 Award for Excellence
from the Agricultural Alumni Association as an international leader in
agricultural development and policy analysis. As head of Taiwan's Ministry
of Agriculture, Dr. Chen devised and implemented a massive international
development program that has been successful in numerous countries in
Africa and Latin America. He led Taiwan into a new realm of international
trade through accession to the World Trade Organization.
Gaylord Coan (BSA in Agricultural Economics) received the 2002
Award for Excellence for distinguishing himself as an innovative Agribusiness
leader. He was Chief Executive Officer for the giant farmer cooperative
Gold Kist, which has over $2 billion in revenue annually. He formed the
world's largest peanut handler, Golden Peanut Company. Mr. Coan is a director
of numerous Agribusiness and financial institutions.
