Research

My research focuses on the bioavailability of nitroaromatic compounds in the environment. My approach to this topic is to examine the distribution and fate of these contaminants within soil aggregates of various sizes. During my research I will focus on the sorption/desorption characteristics of these compounds in the soil as well as characterize the microbial contribution to their degradation and/or transformation. I utilize many standard soil chemistry/soil microbiology techniques and use various types of instrumentation such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS and LC/MS).
