Dr. Richard A. Hudson
Faculty Member and Public Service Associate
Current Activities:
Dr. Hudson oversees the Agricultural Communication
area for the department, with his teaching and advising
students, as well as serving as Advisor to the Agricultural
Communicators of Tomorrow student organization.
Career Highlights:
Dr. Hudson has had a variety of higher education positions
with the University System of Georgia, beginning with
his teaching English Literature and Composition at
The University of Georgia, and then beginning a series
of leadership positions. He directed the University’s
off-campus credit programs from 1975 to 1980, while
also writing grant proposals for educational projects
(with over $750,000 in grants) during this time; directed
a 3-year project for the University System to re-structure
the state’s 23 Nursing Schools from 1980 to
1983 (for 7 years served as a Trustee on the Georgia
State Board of Nursing); served as Director of Corporate
Education for The University of Georgia’s Terry
College of Business from 1983 to 1996 (overseeing
the University’s international and domestic
executive programs); coordinated the University’s
and Athens’ involvement with the 1996 Atlanta
Olympics; served as a Consultant to the Sydney Olympics
in 2000; was Statewide Director of the University
System’s Intellectual Capital Partnership Program
(ICAPP) for the Governor and Chancellor of the state
(developed partnerships with University System institutions
and companies to address work force needs, and created
over 6,000 high tech jobs for the state); and joined
the ALEC Department in the summer of 2002. Dr. Hudson’s
community involvement includes serving on the Oconee
County Board of Education, being President of the
Athens Rotary, and serving as a member of a number
of local Boards and Committees.
