Though she’s an assistant vice chancellor for the board of regents, Tina Woodard is also a student, taking advantage of opportunities at UGA’s Gwinnett campus to further her career and education while maintaining her advocacy for youth.
Art is her passion, but Eva Berlin’s actions go beyond the museum walls—everything from “making waves about an important issue” to her deep desire to help people. She says UGA provides her with the opportunities needed to make an impact in the future.
“Involvement in student organizations has definitely been the highlight of my time at UGA,” says Amy Wong, an environmental health sciences major from Lilburn. From Campus Kitchen to Students for Environmental Action, Amy is making the most of the public service opportunities at UGA.
Waring “Buck” Trible is a self-proclaimed lover, of all things, fire ants. He credits UGA, the Odum School of Ecology and the entomology department for “enabling my habit” of studying the misunderstood insect. “My dream of becoming a scientist may now be a little more realistic due to the incredible nurturing of this school,” he says.
ValaRae Partee finds value in conducting research and community service projects that help children. Her ultimate goal is to develop a process by which living organisms are used to clean the air. Given unlimited resources, the environmental engineering junior from Lithonia wants to save the planet.
Hillary Liken, who grew up in Athens, has found a wealth of opportunity at UGA. The pre-med student has studied abroad, worked in the exercise vascular biology lab and with the legal affairs office, and volunteered with the Mercy Health Clinic. Her ties to the institution go beyond her matriculation. Her father and mother earned degrees at UGA and her sister is currently enrolled.
