Kurinji Pandiyan
Kurinji Pandiyan left a closely-knit extended family in India to study in the United States. The “intellectual curiosity” in the U.S. appealed to her after growing up in a country that sometimes places a lower premium on research than business. Her impressive undergraduate research earned her a highly competitive internship last summer. Pandiyan was one of only 36 interns, out of 1,300 applicants, working at NYU’s Medical Institute in Manhattan. Her life outside the classroom is as filled as her…
Liz Hebbard
Liz Hebbard is a rare combination of someone who is both artistically and intellectually gifted. She is a triple major in German, French and music performance who also performs Mahler with the university orchestra, carries a 3.98 GPA , swims, plays soccer, and has performed with the Redcoat Marching Band.Last summer, she went with the band to China, played in an orchestra in South Carolina, and taught at several music camps. She has auditioned for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Hebbard…
Kathryn Otrosina
Not only has Kathryn Otrosina planned to double major in social science education and political science, but she has combined her passions to create a foundation to teach young people about the political process and encourage them to become more active voters. She is a Watkinsville native and an Arch Society member. After graduation, she plans to join Teach for America to help end education inequity in this country. After gaining experience in the classroom for several years, she will…
Tiffany Reed
Tiffany Reed has a passion for helping animals…and humans. Currently she is president of the Student Chapter of American Veterinary Medical Association, which functions as the student government association in the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine. In this role, she has been a student liaison to many different organizations on campus and nationally. Additionally, she has helped organize an auction to raise funds to send students to the SCAVMA national symposium, and she facilitated programs to stress the importance of…
Helen Smith
Senior Helen Smith attends the University of Georgia, but the world has been her campus. As a Foundation Fellow, she has had the opportunity for international travel, which has given her a unique perspective in her area of study: International Affairs. Her travels have been the impetus for her social consciousness. She would like to turn the world away from its dependency on nonrenewable resources and over-consumption and increase the accountability and transparency of governments worldwide. In an ideal world,…
Mia Morgan
Her experience at UGA has opened the world up for Mia Catharine Morgan. She does a lot of the same things that many undergraduates do: she hangs out at Jittery Joe’s at the Student Learning Center and plays club and intramural sports. She even helps coach the local girls varsity high school tennis team. But with the help of her professor, William Kisaalita, she also received financial support from the National Science Foundation and traveled to Uganda. She used her…
