The UGA Marine Extension Service and the Georgia Association of Marine Educators are proud to host the NMEA conference in Beautiful Savannah Georgia on July 21-24, 2008.

Aquarium hours of operation:

  • Aquarium: 9 AM - 4 PM weekdays
  • Aquarium: noon until 5 PM Saturday

Admission:

  • Ages 13 to adult is $4
  • Seniors and ages 3 to 12 is $2
  • Children under 3 are free

Directions:

From I-16: Exit onto Lynes Parkway East (516) to Savannah (this becomes DeRenne Ave.). Continue on DeRenne and turn right onto Truman Parkway heading South. Follow Truman to Whitfield Avenue exit and turn left at ramp traffic light. Whitfield will become Diamond Causeway. Cross the drawbridge over the Skidaway River, go past Skidaway Island State Park (on your left), and go through the traffic light. At the four-way stop, turn left onto McWhorter Drive. Continue until you reach the Skidaway Marine Science Center. The UGA Aquarium will be to your left. Parking is free. Handicapped spaces are available in front of the building.

MECA Facilities

dockThe University of Georgia's Marine Education Center and Aquarium (MECA) was established in 1972 as a residential coastal educational field station and teaching aquarium. The classrooms, laboratories, and associated support facilities were designed with that primary use in mind. Over the years our mission has broadened, as has the diversity of groups and individuals that make use of our facilities. The Marine Extension Service has continued to invest in renovations, upgrades, and new installations to provide the best possible learning environment.

Picnic Grounds

Over looking the Skidaway River, and adjacent to the beginning of the Jay Wolf Nature Trail, this is an oak and palm shaded area with picnic tables provided.
