UGA's Archway to Excellence Campaign continues to build towards a strong finish with more than $600 million already having been contributed. In 2007, the University of Georgia raised over $100 million in private funds for the second year in a row and met its $500 million goal for the Archway to Excellence Campaign, more than a year ahead of schedule. In fact, the $106.4 million in gifts and new commitments received last year was the second highest level of support in the University’s history.
In his State of the University address this year, President Michael F. Adams made it clear that the university intends to build on that record giving.
“Thanks to the support of our friends and supporters, as well as the very hard work of the development team, we surpassed the $500 million goal last April, 14 months before the June 30, 2008 closing date,” said Adams. “$650 million is well within our reach – 30 percent above the original goal. It is worth noting, I believe, that there were those who said that the University of Georgia could not raise that much money at this time. Those people undersold the deep and abiding love that the people of this state have for this place.”
The university will carry the campaign to its planned conclusion date of June 30, 2008, continuing to seek gifts in support of the campaign’s three themes: building the new learning environment, maximizing research opportunities and competing in a global economy. |
