The three pillars of the UGA Arch are modeled after those on the State of Georgia Seal representing the virtues of Wisdom, Justice and Moderation.    It is the Third Pillar—Moderation—which is exhibited by those donors who consistently renew their belief in the University of Georgia through personal philanthropy.
Verner and Ethel Chaffin's contributions to the law school and the dance department have made them an integral part of the university’s rise to national prominence.

Georgia Fund Launches Loyalty Donor Program

What sort of person is most likely to make a gift to support UGA’s academic mission?   A graduate of a particular class year?  A certain degree?   A donor of large gifts?  A person who lives and works in Georgia?

The top identifier for a UGA donor is actually more basic:   someone who has given before.   Donors who have given for three or more consecutive years are more than 70 percent likely to continue their support for UGA.  And the Georgia Fund is committed to recognizing these donors for their consistency of support.

UGA has created a new recognition program called the Third Pillar for donors who have given for three or more consecutive years.

The Third Pillar recognition program takes its name from the University’s official symbol, the Arch. These Georgia Fund Loyalty Donors have demonstrated an ongoing commitment for continual support of academic excellence at UGA.

“Often in the world of charitable giving, the most attention is understandably given to donors of very large gifts,” said David Jones, Director of Annual & Special Giving at UGA.   “And while these substantial contributions are necessary and significant, we also understand that donors of more modest gift amounts are actually the mainstay for any charitable organization.   We often say ‘every gift—no matter the size—truly does matter,’ and the collective impact of support from a broad base of donors shows that this statement is absolutely true.”

The Georgia Fund congratulates the more than 5,000 individuals who have already become part of the Third Pillar by renewing their support for three or more consecutive years.   These donors will receive a special edition of the 63rd Georgia Fund window decal (as shown above) indicating their distinction as Loyalty Donors at UGA.

Check your giving history and inquire about becoming part of the Third Pillar by emailing gafund@uga.edu  or calling 1-888-268-5442.
