Our students are the heart of UGA:
the fulfillment of our mission
to serve Georgia
THE UNIVERSITY
OF GEORGIA is one of the fastest-rising institutions
in the country. Already ranked among the top 20 American
public universities, we have the ambition, talent and determination
to become one of the very best universities in America,
whether public or private, early in this century.
At the core of this quest is our greatest resource: our students.
They are the heart of UGA: the fulfillment of our mission to
serve Georgia as its land-grant, sea-grant university. We are
preparing our best and brightest to provide leadership, improve
their communities, and strengthen our economy — here in
Georgia and beyond.
One thing UGA will never outgrow is its commitment to teaching.
The quality of students enrolling in UGA today is the finest
we’ve ever had; we owe them the best learning experience
we can possibly give.
We need to increase scholarships, house more students on campus,
strengthen honors programs and academic support, attract and
retain top faculty, expand our international programs, build
new facilities, enhance the learning environment. We need
to reinforce our traditional strengths of student involvement
in cutting-edge research, low teacher/student ratio, and emphasis
on the relational aspect of teaching.
We need to improve the quality of undergraduate education by
integrating academic programs more fully into residential life.
Our goal is to create a 24-hour living and learning community
in which students have seamless access to technology, better
opportunity to know their professors, and the chance to take
greater advantage of UGA’s rich cultural offerings.
Over the next 10 years, these initiatives will transform the
University of Georgia. Many of them are already under way. The
capital campaign will ensure that they are fully funded and
successfully completed.
This campaign will give us that extra margin of excellence:
the ability to put the best possible students with the best
possible faculty in the best possible facilities.
The Archway to Excellence Campaign will MAKE
THAT HAPPEN.
