How to Make Low Risk Choices
The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Program has adopted the 0-1-3 guideline for making low risk choices. If a person wants to reduce the risk of impairment, health and legal problems, they should follow this guideline.
Zero -- A person should not drink any alcohol, especially if he/she is sick, using medications or other drugs, pregnant, under 21, chemically dependent, or driving.
One -- A person should only have one average drink* per hour because this is approximately the amount the body can metabolize per hour.
Three -- A person should not have more than three drinks on any given occasion and should not drink 3 or more drinks daily.
It is always okay not to drink. If you do choose to drink, make healthy choices and follow 0-1-3.
* One Average Drink:
- 1oz 100 proof liquor
- 12oz beer
- 4-5oz glass of wine
