Questions about Alpha Sigma Rho and Sororities

What is a sorority?
A sorority is generally a female-dominant organization who share in lifelong sisterhood. A sorority differs from a regular campus organization because once you are a member, you will always be a member even if you graduate. There is also generally a lot more time and effort put into being part of a sorority as opposed to a regular student organization, but the memories and friendships made through the sorority make it all worth the work.

When was ASR founded?
ASR was founded on April 2, 1998.

What is Alpha Sigma Rho?
ASR is a sorority whose members come together for a common cause and work together as a family to help each other and the world around them. We are a family away from "home." We strive for academic excellence as well as interpersonal growth and moral development.

About Rushing for and joining ASR

What is rush?
Rush is the time when prospective members get to meet the sisters and learn more about ASR and what it stands for. At the end of the rush period, bids are given out to those who are invited to continue to learn more.

What is 'rushing'?
Rushing is the act of meeting with the sisters and going to rush events to mingle and learn about the sorority.

When is rush?
Rush usually occurs during the first month of each Fall and Spring semester. Check the homepage of the ASR website for specific dates.

What is required of prospective members during rush?
To receive a bid, prospective members must attend at least one info session during the rush period. Other than that, just bring yourself!

Who can rush?
Anyone and everyone! We accept all people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. We are an asian-interest sorority, but being asian is NOT a requirement!

How much does rush cost?
Rush is absolutely free! Just show up :)

I'm interested, but I can't make an info session. What do I do?
No worries! We'll work something out. Just contact either of the rush chairs (see the contacts page), and we'll set up an info session just for you.

What is a bid?
A bid is an invitation from the sisters to continue learning more about Alpha Sigma Rho in detail.
