What is New at Georgia Skies
 The History of Georgia Skies

Georgia Skies was originally a web site created by Tom Mote (Associate Prof., Geography)  in 1996 that contained links to real-time weather information for Athens as well as model, satellite, and text data for the country.  That site has since passed on [it has actually become the web server for our forecast contest] and has been replaced by what you see now. The Athens, GA, weather information has been moved to its own home. The version of Georgia Skies you see now was actually originally developed by me at the Meteorology/Climatology Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The site, at that time, was called NEVIT [stands for Nebraska Vortex Intercept Team - yes, the name was dreamt up around several pitchers of Milwaukee's finest]. NEVIT, as it stands now, has received a facelift (not by me) but has really fell into disrepair as far as links are concerned. By the way, NEVIT was originally just a group of graduate students at UNL that enjoyed chasing when we got a chance.  It seems to have take on its own life now. So, as the story goes, when I moved to UGA, I brought NEVIT with me, gave it a spruce up (uhhh, changed color scheme and, of course, the name) and stuck it on the server at uga.edu. Note that I am always updating the broken links and/or adding new links. Most of those changes will be referenced on this page. Hope you enjoy it and find it useful ... Walker
