The Friends of the Garden annual Meeting is Friday March 28, 2008. The meeting will be composed of a business section in the Morning, an Optional Dinner at the Garden, followed by an evening presentation by Pat Stone, editor and creator of GreenPrints "Weeder's Digest". For registration, contact the Garden at 706-542-1244 and join us for a fun evening with this great storyteller and singer.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia art exhibit for April will be Exploring Garden Transformations, 1900-2000. This Smithsonian traveling exhibit is making a return apperance to help us celebrate our 40th Anniversary. These work will display transformations of 5 of America's historic garden: Thornewood in Tacoma, WA, Beacon Hill in Newport, RI, Grosse Pointe War Memorial in Michigan, Shirley Plantation in the James River in VA, and Weld in Brookline, MA.

The State Botanical Garden is cosponsoring an Ethnoecology/Biodiversity Symposium on the afternoon of April 4. Sam Sorenson will speak from 3:00-4:00 on “Being Sustainable in the Food System Industry.” Gary Nabham will speak from 4:00-5:00 pm on “Renewing America’s Food Traditions: Documenting Foodways from Farm to Table.” Other evening events are scheduled off site.

Winners of the 2008 Student Art Competition are on display in the Garden Visitor Center and Conservatory. The winners were: Jessica Bolfik 1st Place, Sutawee N. Thitaram 2nd Place, Amy Michel 3rd Place. Come out an view these wonderfull works while on display. Winning artwork will also be used to create signature items for the Gift Shop

Certificate in Native Plants. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia in cooperation with the Georgia Plant Conservation Alliance will begin offering a certificate program in native plants beginning in the Fall of 2007. This program will offer a comprehensive series of short couses in identification, cultivation, propagation, ecology and conservation of native Georgia plants. This program is appropriate for home gardeners and enthusiasts, as well as green industry professionals, conservationists, and professionals in land, resource, and park management fields.
