Info for new students
Some of the documents required for students who plan to study at UGA:
- TOEFL: The University of Georgia (UGA) requires international students, who first language is not English, to take the TOEFL test. The minimum score for this exam is 550 paper test or 213 computer test or 80 internet based test. Score report must be the original document issued by Educational Testing Service (ETS). - Passport: To apply for your passport, you need to go to Departamento de Polícia Federal (DFP) near to your city. This application process usually takes 1-2 weeks. You can check the required documents for the passport and its status (once you have applied) at: http://www.dpf.gov.br/passaporte/ (You have to check your state and city first)
- Visa for students: There important documents and steps that you need to go through to obtain your visa. The following information will help you on your visa process:
- DS-2019/ I-20 form: This is a required document when you apply for a visa at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate. This document is issued by a U.S. government-approved institution (in this case, UGA ). Contact the Office of International Education about these documents.
- Scheduling a visa appointment: To schedule an appointment at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate, you must pay R$38.00 fee. Once you have paid the fee, you will receive a PIN number which will allow you to schedule an appointment through either phone call or internet. It is recommended that you schedule your appointment as soon as possible, at least one month in advance! Visit the following web site for any further information: http://www.visa-usa.com.br/
- Prior to the visa interview: You will need the following documents with you for the visa interview:
- Passport
- DS-2019 form
- SEVIS fee. Fill in the I-901 form and pay the SEVIS fee ($180) online at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ (You will need your DS-2019 form to complete this document).
- DS-156, DS-157 and DS-158 available at the web site http://www.visa-usa.com.br/. All the forms need to be filled out and completed.
- Other documents to support your visa application might be needed (e.g. UGA acceptance letter, Transcripts from your home university, Bank statement, etc).
- Visa application fee – The fee is USD 100.00 and it must be paid at any authorized Citibank branch (cash only).
