About the pageant

Miss UGA 2010

The Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by the Student Government Association, is a preliminary pageant for the Miss America Pageant Organization.

The Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit corporation established solely to provide contestants with the opportunity to enhance their professional and educational goals, and to achieve those pursuits with the assistance of monetary grants and awards.  In 2008 at the local, state, and national Miss America competitions more than $40 million in cash and tuition-based scholarships were made available.  The scholarship fund is based on a rich scholastic tradition that has been the cornerstone of the Miss America program since 1945.

The winner of the 2010 Miss University of Georgia Pageant will receive a scholarship totaling $1,500.  Scholarships will also be awarded to each runner up.  In addition, a "People's Choice" scholarship will be awarded, based on monetary votes collected on the evening of the Pageant and a Floreida Harrell Congeniality Award will be presented, voted on by the contestants.

This year the Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant will join the Miss America Organization in support of the Children’s Miracle Network as it’s official philanthropy.  Each contestant entering the Miss UGA Pageant will be required to raise $100 for the CMN/Miss America philanthropy project.

The 2010 Miss UGA pageant will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010  in Hugh Hodgson Hall at the Performing Arts Center on the UGA campus.

All interested contestants must attend a required orientation meeting on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in room 137 of the Tate Student Center.
