April 30, 2008

Happy spring everyone!  This is my favorite time of the school year, when the weather starts warming up and you get close to the end of the semester.  I really can’t believe it’s been a month already since my last entry.  Well, actually, I feel like I’ve squeezed enough into this last month to fill an entire year.  I’ve held three big events this past month, among my other appearances.

The first big event was my Tiara Tea Party on March 30th.  I put together this tea party to benefit both the Children’s Miracle Network and the continuing relief effort at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.  I invited little girls to come meet the Disney Princesses and spend the afternoon learning how to be a true princess.  I was so excited to see the party make the front page of the Athens Banner Herald.  Make sure to check out the pictures from the party.  They are adorable!

The second big event was my second annual Miss Elbert County Middle School pageant.  I started the pageant last year as a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network and the middle school itself.  It was an overwhelming success again this year.  I have to say that this pageant is one of my favorite things to do.  I love getting to know the girls during rehearsals and during pageant time, and I hope that I can be a good role model for them.  Congratulations to Macie Witcher, Miss ECMS 2008, Paige Scarborough, Seventh Grade Representative, and Roxana Cruz, Sixth Grade Representative!

My third big event was my “Saturday Night Dance Party.”  The party was held in Elberton on April 19th.  This fundraiser was strictly benefiting CMN.  At the party we raffled off $2500.  My family, friends and I sold $25 tickets for the raffle.  However, it was actually a reverse raffle, so we pulled groups of tickets throughout the party.  To make sure everything was as unbiased as possible, Miss Georgia, Leah Massee was the official ticket-puller.  My Dad had created an excel chart of everyone who had bought a ticket and projected it onto the wall.  That way we knew exactly who was left.  It was so exciting to watch as the tickets came out.  It got down to a lady from Elberton and a group of my classmates in Pharmacy School.  Well…Leah pulled out the Pharmacy group, so congratulations to Dolores Fleming for winning the $2500!  Also at the party, a few of my ballroom dancing friends came to entertain everyone.  We had food and a silent auction; the party was so much fun!!

That covers my big events for the month.  Some of my other favorite appearances were speaking at a conference about the sex trafficking issue in Africa, which benefited the organization Women to the World, speaking at the Alumni Association’s board meeting and thanking them for the $750 they donated to my platform, and attending the Alumni Association’s Awards Luncheon.  At the luncheon, awards were given to some of UGA’s most distinguished graduates.  I also attended the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships, which were held here in Athens this year.   A HUGE congratulations to the GymDogs for winning their fourth straight national championship!  I am at all times reminded of how many wonderful people I get to represent.

Go Dawgs!
