UGA Volunteer Resource Fair guides students to community involvement
ATHENS, Ga. – The fifth annual University of Georgia Volunteer Resource Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Tate Student Center Plaza. The event exposes students to volunteer opportunities with campus-based service groups as well as Athens-area nonprofit, social service, and government agencies.
Rick Gray, assistant director of the Center for Leadership and Service, says student volunteers gain more than just the sense of satisfaction that comes with helping others.
“Getting students involved in community service builds their social awareness and ultimately improves their life skills and self-image,” he says. “People who begin volunteer work in high school or college carry the spirit of service for their entire lives.”
Volunteer UGA is a program of the Center for Leadership and Service that connects students with opportunities for community service in Athens-Clarke County and throughout the region.
