UGA debate offers two strong perspectives on controversial issue
ATHENS, Ga – The Ideas and Issues Division of the University Union Student Programming Board will host a debate titled “Abortion Rights in America” on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Tate Student Center. The debate will feature Andrew Napolitano, FOX News Channel legal analyst and former superior court judge, and Michael Waldman, public interest attorney and former aide to President Bill Clinton.
Napolitano served as an adjunct professor of constitutional law at Seton Hall Law School, where he provided instruction in constitutional law and jurisprudence. He joined FOX News Channel in 1998 and currently serves as the network’s senior judicial analyst. Napolitano lectures nationally on constitutional law and has written four books, including “Dred Scott’s Revenge: A Legal History of Race and Freedom in America.”
As chief speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, Waldman spent seven years shaping the way the world views presidential policy, Washington, D.C., and the nation. Waldman currently serves as director of the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University School of Law, and he is a regular political commentator on ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” and “Nightline” and MSNBC’s “Hardball.”
Waldman’s 2000 book “POTUS Speaks: Finding the Words that Defined the Clinton Presidency” was a New York Times bestseller.
Admission is free for students with valid UGA Cards who pay activity fees on the Athens campus. Non-student admission is $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the debate. Tickets are available at the Tate Cashier Window, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
