GRADUATE PROGRAM GUIDELINES: FINAL EXAMINATIONS

The department requires that all M.S. and Ph.D. candidates present his/her final defense as a departmental seminar.
The student must notify the Admission Counselor II of the arranged time, place and title, two weeks before the date
of the examination.

M.S. CANDIDATES

The candidate must pass a final oral examination covering course work and the thesis. The final oral examination is administered by the Advisory Committee, with the Major Professor serving as chairman.

PH.D. CANDIDATES

When the Major Professor has been notified that the dissertation has been approved, he/she will arrange the time, place and title of the final oral examination. The student, through the Admissions Counselor II, must notify the Graduate School at least two weeks before the date of the examination. Subsequently the Graduate School will announce the time and place of the defense to the University community. The examination is administered by the Advisory Committee, with the Major Professor serving as chairman. The Major Professor must notify the Graduate School and the Graduate Coordinator of the results of this examination at least one week prior to graduation.
