Dawgs Win State Championship!
The Chess Dawgs won the Georgia Open College Team Chess Championship on Saturday, February 28th, at Emory University. After four rounds of competition the Chess Dawgs were tied with Georgia Tech, and had tied winning two games each in head to head competition with a G/45 time control. Rather than accepting victory based on having a stronger schedule, the Chess Dawgs sought to prove their dominance by challenging Georgia Tech to a five minute blitz game. After an exciting round the Chess Dawgs were victorious, crushing their rivals on all four boards.
Congratulations to the members of the A-team: Richard Francisco, Will Stewart, Ken Bennett, and Femi Ogunyemi. The Chess Dawgs took two teams, the B-team consisting of David Gorvy, Patrick Graham, Geoff Malcolm, Will Campbell, and Forrest Aguar. In addition to winning as a team, William Stewart and Ken Bennett also won individual awards for being the best players on boards two and three respectively, after winning all their games.
New Hours:
- Monday 7-10pm at Tate
- Thursday 7-10pm at Tate
The Chess Dawgs will now be meeting on Monday and Thursday rather than Monday and Wednesday as in the past. Hopefully the changes will enable students that have too busy a MWF or TR schedule to attend one of the meetings to be able to attend the other.
