Dmitriy Nikonov is CITS Senior Research Associate and has been with the Center since 1995. He received his B.A. cum laude in English/German Linguistics from Pyatigorsk State Institute of Foreign Languages in Russia in 1993, M.A. in Political Science from Western Illinois University in 1998, and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Georgia in 2003.
His primary research interests are nonproliferation and nuclear security policies, export control regimes, and emerging technology security issues. He is currently engaged in a number of research and outreach projects, including the role of culture in WMD security, the human dimension of radiological terrorism, and others. Dr. Nikonov is the author of several articles and book chapters, and speaks frequently on the issues of nonproliferation, export controls and WMD material security.
