Jay P. Nash, Esq.
Jay P. Nash, Esq. joined the Washington, DC office of the UGA Center for International Trade and Security (CITS/UGA) as a research coordinator and analyst in May 2005. His research focuses on China and Chinese export controls, U.S. export controls, and nonproliferation-related legal issues. Mr. Nash has worked on several public and private-sponsored projects, including assessments of national export control systems, working with foreign countries on implementing and enforcing their nonproliferation systems, and export control training/outreach programs for foreign and domestic audiences. He has written several reports on national and international export control developments for the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State, and for the Center for Information Security Trade Control (CISTEC) in Japan. In addition, Mr. Nash has given lectures and participated in training programs for Chinese government, industry, and university communities, the CITS/UGA Export Control Academy, and for US corporate audiences. In 2007, Mr. Nash plans to serve as a visiting scholar and lecturer on nonproliferation export controls at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) and the Shanghai Customs College (SHCC), as part of an effort to develop the trade and security curricula at those two institutions.
Mr. Nash received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1997, a Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law—where he specialized in government and international law—in 2003, and a Master’s in Security Studies from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in 2005. He has studied abroad in Taiwan and mainland China, is proficient in Mandarin Chinese, and is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the American Society of International Law.
