Mission

imageLeadership UGA, the oldest of our leadership programs sponsored by the Richard B. Russell Foundation, is modeled after the Leadership Georgia program. Leadership UGA is a program unlike any other at the University. The program was established in 1985 to recognize truly outstanding leaders on this campus, and to provide them a unique opportunity to interact with each other, to meet with leaders from throughout the state, and to become more aware of the issues facing our nation.

Approximately 40 third and fourth year (and above) students will be selected to participate in Leadership UGA.  Selection will be based on written application and group interview. Students selected to participate in Leadership UGA will meet approximately six times throughout the fall and spring semesters.  Programs are scheduled for Oct. 20, Nov. 10, Dec. 1, Jan. 26, Feb. 16 and graduation on Feb. 28.  The theme for this year’s Leadership UGA program is “Leading in Times of Crisis,” and each program will address this issue in a unique way.  An important component of this program is the retreat, which will take place Sunday, October 4, 2009.  Attendance at the retreat, all programs, and graduation is mandatory.   Programs will usually begin in the late afternoon and conclude after a dinner in either Athens or Atlanta.
