This is a national service fraternity dedicated to service in the

Alternative Spring Break
This a one week program during spring break that sends groups to
different destinations to participate in a service project. The
communities who host alternative breaks come from various areas
throughout the Southeast. But in every case, the host community's
culture is very different from the campus culture.
During these projects, students learn about issues such as literacy,
poverty, racism, hunger, homelessness, and the environment. Being
completely immersed in diverse environments allows students to
experience, discuss, and understand social issues in profound ways.

Area Agency on Aging
This is through the Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center.
The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) contracts with counties, private
organizations, senior centers, attorneys at law, and non-profit
organizations to provide services to the elderly. Services include:
Alzheimer's Adult Day and Respite Care, Community Care Service Program, Congregate Meals, Elder Abuse
Prevention Program, Elderly Legal Assistance Program, Escort,

Athens Oconee Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
CASA is a trained community volunteer appointed by the Juvenile
Court to be a voice for children involved in court proceedings due
to abuse or neglect. Volunteers conduct independent investigations
about the facts leading to the child’s removal, attend court
proceedings, and provide recommendations to the judge as to the best
interest of the child. Volunteers must be 21 years of age.

Athens Regional Medical Center
Volunteers need no special training to get involved. Interested
applicants are interviewed, and special talents and personal
schedules are matched to the hospital's needs. Most volunteer
approximately four hours once a week however, additional hours are
always welcome. Evenings and weekend volunteers are always needed as

Athens Tutorial Program
This is a charitable, non-profit organization that is dedicated to
providing academic assistance, improving learning skills, and
providing personal growth and cultural enrichment opportunities to

Best Buddies
The UGA chapter is affiliated with Best Buddies International, a
program that matches college students with adults who have an
intellectual disability. The goal of Best Buddies International is
to enhance the lives of these individuals through one-on-one
friendships and integrated employment. Volunteers should spend at
least two hours with their buddy, and are responsible for keeping up
with his or her own time sheet. Volunteer UGA hosts an event each

BikeAthens
There are various events and committees one can volunteer for. The
events are Tour de Sprawl, Bike Safety Rodeos for Kids, Courteous
Mass Rides, and Century Ride Fundraiser. The different committees
are Publicity, Transit Issues, Bike Facility Issues, Graphic Design,
Accident tracking, Meetings & Programs, Pedestrian issues, and Bike
Recycling.

Botanical Gardens
Volunteers work in virtually every area of the Garden, staffing the
Gift Shop, information desk, library, and special events like plant
sales and family festivals. Volunteers assist the horticulture
staff, serve as tour guides, and work with special programs and
projects—photography, label making, and trail interpretation to name
just a few.

Even Start Family Literacy Program
This is a government funded program that provides GED prep classes
and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for families in need.
They need tutors to help the adults in the GED and ESL classes. The
following days and times are available on Monday - Friday:
- 2 GED prep classes and intermediate ESL class from 8:15am to
11:15am
- 1 GED prep class, an advanced ESL class, and a beginner ESL
class from 12:15pm to 3:15pm.

Firstbook-UGA
Firstbook UGA is a part of a national organization that is committed
to providing children of low income households with books. The
organization uses grant funding to award books to local agencies and
schools and sponsors programs that promote literacy at the
University of Georgia.

Foodbank of Northeast Georgia
This agency is looking for volunteers between 8am - 5pm Monday -
Friday. Volunteers are needed to load and unload vehicles, stack and

Friends for Life
Community based volunteer mentors needed for children of incarcerated parents (ages 4-18). Volunteers commit to spending at least one hour per week with one child for one year. Volunteers are matched with a child after completing an application, personal interview, and submitting to a criminal background check and a 3 year motor vehicle report check. Volunteers must also attend a free training session.

OASIS is dedicated to helping the Hispanic Community of Athens through education.

Relay For Life rallies communities to celebrate cancer survivors,
remember loved ones lost, and raise funds to eliminate cancer.
Lasting overnight, team members take turns walking around the UGA

promote, organize, and walk at the event which is held each spring
at UGA.

Sexual Assault Center
The Sexual Assault Center provides advocacy for victims of sexual
violence in our community, as well as education and prevention
programming.
Volunteers are needed to assist with the 24 hour Crisis Hotline.
As a hotline volunteer, you will provide emotional support to
survivors of sexual assault and their significant others, friends
and family members who may call the line. You will also be trained
to accompany sexual assault survivors during the law enforcement
interview and the rape exam.
Volunteers are also needed to work individually or with others to
create innovative sexual assault prevention programs for the
community. Program topics encompass all issues surrounding sexual
assault, such as self-protection, dating violence, and child sexual
abuse. Volunteers represent the agency at local health fairs,
festivals, and in classrooms in an effort to prevent sexual assault
through education.
Opportunities are open to eligible men and women age 18+. All
volunteers must complete a 30 hour intensive training course and
pass a criminal background check before volunteering

providing assistance to a teacher throughout the year. There are
