In an effort to unite all the student organizations that operate out of the Center for Leadership & Service, Preya took the lead on organizing an event that extended beyond the department and reached out into the Athens community. The Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela was chosen as the beneficiary since many of the CLS students already serve in the organization’s after-school mentor program. The organization, headed by Sister Margarita, also serves the community by distributing food, clothing, diapers, furniture, and appliances to the children’s families. On November 19, 2007, students gathered at the CLS and spent time getting to know each other at a networking event and donating supplies such as rice, beans, clothing, and heaters. As of today, nearly 700 dollars and multiple van loads of donations have been provided to Sister Margarita and the Oasis community. Thanks to Preya, and the other students involved in making this effort a huge success!
