Daniel V. DerVartanianProfessor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and MicrobiologyChairman, Division of Biological Sciences Professor DerVartanian received his A. B. from Boston Universityin 1956, M. S. from Northeastern University in 1959, and Sc.D. from theUniversity of Amsterdam in 1965. Dr. DerVartanian's research interests center on the function of unusualredox metals (nickel, etc.) as studied by electron paramagnetic resonancespectroscopy in key biological enzymes such as hydrogenase, carbon monoxidedehydrogenase, etc. He is presently interested in determining whether anickel protein is present in heart. He held an NIH Career Development award from 1971 until 1976, and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Bioenergeticsand Biomembranes, the Journal of Bacteriology, and Biochimicaet Biophysica Acta. His research has been supported by NIH and NSF.He has received awards for advanced study from the French government, theNetherlands government, and NATO.
