Thomas Hébert also recently received the Mary Frasier Equity and Excellence Award from the Georgia Association for Gifted Children (GAGC).
Thomas Hébert will receive the 2008 Outstanding Alumni Research Award from the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education in recognition of his work in gifted education.

The Outstanding Alumni Research Award is given to a senior level investigator who has made significant research contributions to his or her field of study over a 10-year period. Reviewers examine the number and quality of research publications in the field, the nominee’s level of importance in the discovery process and their impact in their profession.

Hébert, a professor of gifted and creative education in the College of Education’s department of educational psychology and instructional technology, also recently received the Mary Frasier Equity and Excellence Award from the Georgia Association for Gifted Children (GAGC) for his outstanding achievement in practices that promote equitable identification procedures and provision of high-quality services to gifted students from underrepresented groups.

Hébert teaches graduate courses in gifted and creative education, and qualitative research methods. He has worked with gifted students at the elementary, middle and high school levels for 13 years. Much of Hébert’s research has addressed issues facing culturally diverse males – African American, Latino and Asian.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut and joined the UGA faculty in 1997 from the University of Alabama. The award will be presented at the annual Neag School of Education's Honors Day Celebration on Friday, April 25.
