Michelle Espino received the 2007 Association of Higher Education’s Dissertation of the Year Award.
Counseling professor Michelle Espino has been elected to serve as national co-chair for a special interest division of the National Association of Student Personnel Administration.
Espino, an assistant professor in the College of Education’s department of counseling and human development services, teaches in the College Student Affairs Administration program. She was chosen to serve on NASPA’s special interest division titled, Latino Concerns Knowledge Community.
She, along with Juan Guardia from Florida State University, will serve a two-year term, beginning in 2010.
Espino, who earned her Ph.D. in higher education at the University of Arizona, received the 2007 Association of Higher Education’s Dissertation of the Year Award for her work titled, Master Narratives and Counter-Narratives: An Analysis of Mexican-American Life Stories of Oppression and Resistance Along the Journeys to the Doctorate.
Before attending the University of Arizona, Espino served as coordinator of student programs at Southern Methodist University for five years. She received her master’s degree in college student personnel at Bowling Green State University and her bachelor’s degree in international relations from St. Mary’s University. Espino joined the UGA faculty in the fall of 2008.
