Wanda Stitt-Gohdes has received the National Business Education Association's Collegiate Teacher of the Year and John Robert Gregg Award.
Education professor Wanda Stitt-Gohdes received two top honors at the recent National Business Education Association convention: Collegiate Teacher of the Year and the John Robert Gregg Award. She is the first individual to receive both awards in the same year.

Stitt-Gohdes, a professor in the department of workforce education, leadership, and social foundations, was recognized for her contributions to business education and her dedication to the advancement of the field.

“When I discovered that I would be receiving the NBEA Collegiate Teacher of the Year award, I was quite honored as it's always meaningful to have one's work acknowledged by one's peers,” Stitt-Gohdes said. “But when I learned I would also be receiving the Gregg Award, I was simply overwhelmed and remain so today. The list of previous Gregg Award winners reads like a ‘Who's Who’ in business education and includes Dr. Calfrey C. Calhoun, a former UGA professor who was my major professor and mentor. To be the recipient of both of these awards in the same year is really humbling.”

Stitt-Gohdes is undergraduate program coordinator in workforce education, which prepares educators to teach career and technical education courses in public secondary schools in grades 7-12 and postsecondary institutions as well as non-education settings including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, business and industry.

Stitt-Gohdes has written one book, several book chapters, numerous journal articles and presentations during her 19-year career at UGA. She received the Southern Business Education Association Collegiate Teacher of the Year award in 1996.

She has been involved with several national professional organizations including serving as NBEA convention chair for Teacher Education Research sessions (2006), Omicron Tau Theta national president (2001-02), NBEA yearbook reviewer and author of four chapters (2000 and 2010) and chair of the Policies Commission for Business and Economics Education (1996-97).

Current president of the COE Faculty Senate at UGA, Stitt-Gohdes has served on several committees including awards, curriculum, graduate faculty appointment/reappointment and promotion and tenure. On the university level, she has represented the COE on the University Council.

Stitt-Gohdes joined the UGA faculty in 1990 from California State University, Los Angeles, where she had been a professor in the School of Business and Economics. She earned her Ed.D. from UGA in 1980.

Stitt-Gohdes received the awards April 9-11 at the NBEA’s national conference in Chicago.
