Judith Preissle is the head of the qualitative research program.
Education professor Judith Preissle has been named a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in education research.
Preissle, a professor in the department of lifelong education, administration, and policy, was inducted into the 2009 class of AERA Fellows along with her colleague UGA Regents Professor Jeremy Kilpatrick at the association’s annual meeting in San Diego in April.
“I appreciate being honored by AERA, and I am grateful for the support and recognition of my colleagues here at the University of Georgia who have made our organization a place where creative productivity can thrive,” said Preissle.
Preissle is the head of the qualitative research program and co-founded the Qualitative Research in Education Conference which was held in Athens annually from 1988-2007.
“Jude has been more responsible than any other faculty member at the College of Education for changing the professional culture of this institution so that qualitative research is now a respected alternative,” said retired social science education professor A. Guy Larkins.
Preissle has been honored with numerous UGA and COE awards during her career, including the 2009 Ira E. Aaron Award for Teaching Excellence and Collegiality, the 2006 Women’s Studies Faculty Award, the 2001 Distinguished Aderhold Professor Award and the 2000 Russell H. Yeany Research Award.
Preissle joined the UGA faculty in 1975. She earned her Ed.D. in social studies education from Indiana University.
Preissle and Kilpatrick are the latest UGA College of Education faculty members to be named Fellows of the AERA. Mary M. Atwater, a professor of science education, and Roy Martin, a professor emeritus of educational psychology, were named inaugural Fellows last year.
