Marianne Roberts, office manager for the department of language and literacy education, has received the College of Education 2009 Staff Award for Excellence.

Roberts, a resident of Winder, was presented a plaque and a $1,200 cash award in ceremonies June 5 at the East Campus Village Fireside Lounge. First runner-up, Jill Kleinke, administrative coordinator at the Center for Counseling and Personal Evaluation, was awarded $750; and second runner-up, Priscilla Carter, academic advisor in the department of kinesiology, received $300.

Faculty and staff members describe Roberts as an efficient, intelligent and caring member of the college’s staff. She is lauded for her reputation as a problem solver and her positive attitude.

Former department head Joel Taxel describes Roberts as a “polished, highly competent professional office manager. Marianne always has been willing to go above and beyond the requirements of her job.”

Kleinke, of Athens, was praised for her positive interactions with the center’s faculty, students, and clients.

Carter, of Winterville, was commended for being approachable and caring to the nearly 200 students she advises.

The three finalists were selected from a list of 10 nominees that included David Avin, Tammy Bridges, Teresa Melton, Sheila Myers, Dianne Parham, Melinda Pass, and Jacquee Rosumny.

In addition to the Staff Awards for Excellence, several staff members were recognized for years of service to the college. They included: David Avin and Jill Kleinke, 5 years; Michael Childs, Pam LaSalle, Dee Palmer, Penny Rabon, and Linda Taylor, 10 years; Christy Glazer, 15 years; Ann Seagraves and Willis Strickland, 20 years; and Martha Williams, 35 years.
