Arthur (Andy) M. Horne, interim dean of the College of Education, will receive a Many Faces of Counseling Psychology Award to be given at the International Conference of Counseling Psychology in March.
Horne, a Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus in Counseling Psychology, became interim dean on January 1 after Louis A. Castenell Jr., stepped down from the post. He was founding director of UGA’s Educational Policy and Evaluation Center and a Fellow for the Institute for Behavioral Research.
Horne was principal investigator for the Multi-Site Violence Prevention Program, a co-principal investigator of the Healthy Teens Program and Coordinator of the Bully Busting Program.
Horne’s work is being recognized for exemplifying the integration of science and practice within counseling psychology. He has been influential internationally, sharing his work in more than 15 countries with groups such as the World Health Organization, the International Congress for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, the World Conference on Injury Prevention and Control, and the International Conference on Violence in Schools and Public Policies, as well as a large number of professional associations.
Throughout his international work, Horne has advocated for the preventative application of solid counseling psychology techniques and strategies in working with children, families and school personnel. He has been an active leader in the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association. He has co-authored seven books, co-edited seven more books, and has served on editorial boards of seven journals. Moreover, he has served as the editor of two professional journals: the International Journal for the Advancement of Counseling and the Journal for Specialists in Group Work.
The Many Faces of Counseling Psychology recognition is intended to showcase a few from among the many deserving individuals and groups undertaking innovative, creative, and adaptive work to bring a critical focus to strength-based, developmental, and preventive approaches to psychological issues.
