Pamela Paisley received the 2006 'Ohana Honors Award from the Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ).
Counseling professor Pamela O. Paisley will receive the David K. Brooks Jr. Distinguished Mentor Award, a national honor presented each year by the American Counseling Association Foundation (ACAF).
The award recognizes Paisley for her work in helping to strengthen the counseling profession by serving as a role model and mentor.
Paisley, a professor in the department of counseling and human development services, is coordinator of the Ed.S. program in school counseling and academic coordinator of the new Ph.D. program in counseling and personnel services. Both programs are offered at UGA’s Gwinnett Campus.
Paisley was principal investigator on a $450,000 grant funded by DeWitt Wallace – Reader’s Digest for a project to transform school counseling preparation and practice.
She received the 2006 'Ohana Honors Award from the Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) and has served as president of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She has also received many teaching awards from UGA and Appalachian State University, where she taught for seven years before joining the UGA faculty in 1994.
Paisley worked as a teacher and counselor in North Carolina public schools for a decade before earning her Ed.D in counselor education from North Carolina State University.
Her research interests include school counseling program development, issues related to children and adolescents and promoting development for the adults in children's lives.
Paisley will receive the award at the national convention in Hawaii in March.
