Judith Preissle, qualitative research professor in the department of lifelong education, administration, and policy, is one of two women faculty to be honored with the 2006 Women’s Studies Award from the University of Georgia Institute for Women’s Studies.
The award honors those who have made significant contributions to women’s studies at UGA and to the lives of women on campus.
Preissle and Linda Grant, professor of sociology, will receive the annual award at the 2006 New Women Faculty reception hosted by the institute on Friday, Sept. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Tate Student Center Reception Hall.
Preissle is coordinator of the Qualitative Research Program. The College of Education named her the 2001 Aderhold Distinguished Professor for excellence in research, teaching and outreach/service. She also received the Study in a Second Discipline Award in 2001. Preissle received her doctorate in social studies education from Indiana University.
Grant has been at UGA since 1985. She received the Women Educators' Award from the American Educational Research Association in 1983. She earned her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan in 1981.
The institute invites the campus community to join in welcoming women faculty who were hired in the past academic year. The event is an opportunity for new faculty to learn about UGA and Athens, as well as to meet other scholars and potential research and teaching collaborators.
The institute provides a feminist interdisciplinary perspective on women and gender. Administratively a program in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, Women’s Studies cooperates with departments of all schools and colleges of the university in developing its curriculum and programming.
