McCullick
College of Education professor Bryan McCullick has received the 2006 Mabel Lee Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD).

McCullick, an associate professor of kinesiology and graduate coordinator of the health and physical education teacher education program, is lauded for his contributions to physical education. His research can be directly applied to sport and physical education professionals, contributing significantly to the scholarly and practical world that AAHPERD represents, according to the organization.

His research focuses on preservice teaching participants’ views of teacher preparation and examining assessment and effective instructor certification programs, to ensure that the measuring methods are accurate and ultimately improving teacher development practices in physical education.

Additionally, McCullick directs the Georgia Physical Education Teachers Workshop every summer. The workshop provides Georgia’s practicing physical education teachers with current trends and new ideas in teaching. While pursuing his Ph.D. degree in physical education and sports education at UGA in 1995, McCullick worked in the UGA’s sport lab and continues to contribute to ongoing research in the lab.

McCullick’s extracurricular activities include mentoring New Zealand students online and volunteer teaching local children to help them reach their goals in life.

The Mabel Lee Award recipient embodies a young member of the Alliance who demonstrates outstanding potential in scholarship, teaching and/or professional leadership. McCullick received the national award in the College and University category.

McCullick joined the UGA faculty in 1998.
