Ronald VanSickle Receives National Recognition

Professor Ronald VanSickle was honored for more than 25 years of distinguished service in teaching economics by the National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE).

VanSickle, a professor of social studies education and head of the department of elementary and social studies education in the College of Education, began working with the UGA Center for Economic Education in 1977 and has served as associate director, director, or co-director since 1982.

The center sponsors preservice and in-service workshops and courses for educators and publishes instructional materials for use in Georgia classrooms. It is affiliated with the Georgia Council on Economic Education and the National Council on Economic Education in New York.

VanSickle received his Ed.D. in social studies education from Indiana University at Bloomington before joining the UGA faculty in 1975. He has co-edited a book, Cooperative Learning for the Social Studies Classroom, for the National Council for the Social Studies and is author of many book chapters and articles published in scholarly journals including Social Studies, Theory and Research in Social Education, and the Journal of Economic Education. His teaching and research interests include teaching for higher order thought and problem solving, economic education and social studies in Korea.
