Leigh Poole was also selected as a Fulbright Scholar for the U.S.-Germany International Education Administrators program in 2004.
Leigh Poole, a doctoral student in the student affairs administration program and UGA’s associate director for Intercultural Affairs, was one of only four Americans selected to participate in the Fulbright International Education Administrators Program for Korea for two weeks in June.
The short-term Fulbright IEA seminars introduce participants to the society, culture and higher education systems of various countries through campus visits, meetings with foreign colleagues and government officials, attendance at cultural events and briefings on education.
Poole was selected as a Fulbright Scholar for the U.S.-Germany International Education Administrators program in 2004.
In addition, Poole serves as director of International Student Life (ISL), also within the Division of Student Affairs, where she coordinates international student orientation, implements international programming initiatives, advises 30 student organizations as well as various publication and web site responsibilities. She recently created the Global Leadership Institute for the ISL Office.
Poole was elected to serve as the Georgia representative to Region VII NAFSA: Association of International Educators in 2007. She has also held leadership positions at the national and regional levels for NAFSA Region VII as the Campus and Community Programming Representative.
In 2006, Poole was honored as the recipient of the UGA Pedro Zamora Horizons Award in recognition of her long-standing commitment to diversity. She has studied abroad in the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
Poole earned a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 1999 and a bachelor’s degree from Wofford College in 1997. She plans to graduate with her doctorate in 2009.
