The University of Georgia College of Education will continue the celebration of its 100th birthday with a Centennial Terrace Dedication on Friday, September 5 that promises to be a momentous occasion.

An artist's rendition of inscription on the marble inlay on the COE's Centennial Terrace in front of Aderhold Hall.
The new Centennial Terrace, located on the front steps of Aderhold Hall on Carlton Street, features 428 brick pavers personalized with inscriptions from faculty, alumni, staff and friends of the college.

Highlights of the 2-4 p.m. event will include an appearance by UGA's new bulldog mascot, Uga VII (from 2-2:20 p.m.); an invocation by Mary Frances Early, a COE alumna and UGA’s first African-American graduate; and remarks by Dean Arthur M. (Andy) Horne. Ice cream, cookies and lemonade will be served and COE Centennial memorabilia will be on sale at the event.

The Centennial Terrace Dedication is expected to draw faculty, staff, students, retired faculty and friends of the college who purchased a brick or made a contribution to the Centennial Scholarship Fund. All proceeds from paver sales will go to the Centennial Scholarship Endowment.

The college kicked off its centennial with a June 13 luncheon that drew nearly 700 people to the Classic Center in downtown Athens—100 years to the day that the college was founded in 1908.
