Kenneth L Johnson, Jr., a social science education major, was chosen as the College of Education representative for the Rotary Top 12 award based on his community and professional service.

The Rotary Top 12 award is given to one student in each of the 11 undergraduate schools at the University of Georgia each year. Johnson, a senior from Augusta, was recognized at the Athens Rotary Club meeting on April 13.

Presented with a medal and plaque for his service, Johnson said, “This is a great honor in recognition of things I have accomplished in the past, and it will serve as motivation for me to continue working for the benefit of all others who are touched.”

After completing his student teaching in December 2005, Johnson plans to pursue a master's degree in either social science education or educational leadership. He hopes to obtain a Ph.D. in education administration and serve his community as a high school principal.

Each school nominates four students for the Rotary award and a committee comprised of Rotarians and Rotaract UGA members selects the Top 12. Selections are based on leadership roles at UGA as well as professional, club, worldwide and community service.
