Austin Browne will receive $5,000 to complete his graduate work in human resources and organizational development.
Adult education graduate student Austin Browne has been named one of four National Graduate Scholars by the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation.
Browne, a second-year master’s student, will receive $5,000 to complete his graduate work in the College of Education’s department of lifelong education, administration and policy, where he is specializing in human resources and organizational development.
He was selected for the honor because of his commitment to excellence in the classroom and for his experience in a variety of business sectors including service, hospitality, education, transportation and distribution logistics.
During graduate school, Browne has worked for a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway and was selected to participate in the Norfolk Southern Internship program which is ranked 13th on BusinessWeek’s 50 Best Internships. He is currently working with Sally Zepeda, a professor in the department of lifelong, education, administration, and policy, as project manager for a large-scale joint grant from the Wallace Foundation and the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement. The grant is a multi-year project that is examining succession planning and the relationship of supervision, evaluation, and socialization in select school systems in Georgia.
After graduation in May, Browne said he would like to continue to learn and grow as a scholarly practitioner. He hopes to be employed as an internal or external business consultant.
