Graduate student Kimber Shelton has received a national scholarship from a division of the American Counseling Association for her work as a group counselor focusing on underserved populations.

Shelton, a doctoral student majoring in counseling psychology, received the Peg Carroll Scholarship from the Association for Specialists in Group Work.

She is currently participating in a year-long ACA-accredited internship as a pre-doctoral Fellow at the Georgia State University Counseling and Testing Center, where she provides couples, group and individual counseling, outreach and consultation, and supervises a doctoral-level clinician. She expects to graduate in August 2009.

Shelton has bachelor’s degrees in psychology and criminal justice from Roberts Wesleyan College (NY) and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Niagara University (NY).

The Peg Carroll Scholarship is given annually in the amount of $2,000 to a student member of ASGW working to further the understanding and study of group work.
