The College of Education’s educational administration and policy program named three doctoral students as recipients of scholarships at their recent annual award luncheon.

Elvis Davis, principal of South Dodge Elementary School in Eastman, was named recipient of the David J. Mullen Scholarship, which provides $1,000 for a doctoral candidate preparing for a public school position.

Davis has been principal of South Dodge Elementary School in Eastman for the past three years.

Davis, served as assistant principal at Hillcrest Elementary in Dublin and taught at Dodge County Middle School in Eastman before accepting his current position. He has an education specialists degree in educational leadership from Georgia Southern University, a master’s in middle grades education and a bachelor’s in computer information systems from Georgia Southwestern University.

Janie Sheldon, an educator at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County for over 20 years, received the Ray E. Bruce Academic Support Awardt, a $500 annual scholarship for practitioner-scholars studying the theory and application of supervision in schools and school systems.

During her career, she has served as a teacher support specialist, administrative assistant, honors program director, gifted program coordinator, English language arts department chairman, founder of a vocational English program and table leader at the advanced placement English Literature and Composition reading for the College Board/ETS Scoring Services.

Sheldon earned an educational specialist degree in English education plus a certification in gifted education from UGA. She received her master’s in English and a bachelor’s in English education from Wichita State University.

Michael Lamb, director of instruction and institutional effectiveness at West Georgia Technical College in Lagrange, received the Carroll Wade McGuffey Scholarship, which is awarded to a doctoral student researching the impact of school environment on teacher behavior, pupil behavior and/or pupil learning.

Lamb, of Warm Springs, was vice president and store manager for Macy’s after a 20-year career when he decided to make a career change. He earned a master’s in management from Georgia State University and completed two years of doctoral studies in strategic human resource management there before coming to UGA.
