Karen Webb to coordinate undergraduate minority recruitment
Karen Webb, who has served as director of recruitment and retention for the UGA Graduate School since January 1999, has accepted an administrative move to the Office of Admissions to coordinate undergraduate minority recruitment efforts. She will serve on the admissions management team as an associate director.
Webb joined the university last January following two years as coordinator of an achievement program in the Office of Graduate Minority Programs at the University of Florida, where she served as president of the Association of Black Faculty and Staff. She also worked at UF in minority recruitment and retention for the graduate school, was a peer counselor coordinator, and taught computer science and test preparation as a counselor for Upward Bound. In addition, she has taught high school mathematics and computing in the Cayman Islands and has been active in several professional associations for academic advising, leadership development and race relations.
She earned an undergraduate degree with specializations in computer science, mathematics, geography and education from Florida International University, where she then worked for four years with pre-college minority programs. She earned a master of science degree in computer science education from Nova Southeastern University in 1998, and she is currently a doctoral student in higher education at UGA.
